“Freedom”
Being married at 24, I never got a chance to experience the single, non-student, lifestyle – until last weekend! (well… sort of…).
Pei went through a radioactive treatment last weekend where she had to be isolated for a couple of days. The doctor advised me to stay in a hotel for a couple of days in order to minimize unnecessary exposure to the radiation. “Why not?” – I thought to myself. I’ll be free for two days!
I thought I could visit the library, shop at Fry’s, watch a movie, have coffee, read some books, etc… Unfortunately, I did all that during the first half of Saturday and I was soon bored without anything to do.
I started calling home and chat with Pei. I must have called her more than 10 times in 48 hours. Soon, I ran out of topics to talk. Suddenly, I did something that was the opposite of “freedom”. I went back to my cubicle and logged into the computer to work! I wasn’t too productive that day, but those few hours in front of the computer did help kill some time.
I know it sounds pathetic. But somehow I got used to married life. It feels weird not having someone besides you – even if sometimes you end up fighting with that person.
After last weekend’s experience, if someone pays for the hotel and asks me if I want to be “free” for a couple days, I will think twice before packing.
DVD burner
Rebecca’s one year birthday is coming up soon…. Pei and I want to compile all the movie clips and photos into a DVD. Problem is: We don’t have a DVD burner on our Apple powerbook and a new iMac is beyond our budget. ![]()
We had the choice of buying a desktop PC with DVD burner. However, once you get used to a Mac, you really don’t want to buy a PC anymore. We finally decided to upgrade our current laptop with the following:
- DVD burner: $195
- 160 Gb hard disk: $345
- 1Gb memory upgrade: $149
- Volumen discount: -$100
Of course,
- daughter’s 1 year old DVD: priceless.

Report from Canada!
Hi Daddy & Mommy,
How are you? Do you guys miss me? I am doing pretty good in Grandma’s place. Lots of food to eat for 10 month-old, right now, I weight 21 pounds and getting taller than before. There are lots of visitors in Grandma’s house. And a good thing is I get to play with them by using my innocent baby face.
New trick that I learned is to drink juice from a straw. Although occasionally I will get hiccup after drinking with a straw, this is fun thing to do. Thanks to my “Dry-Dad”( the offical name should be “Godfather”), who taught me how to do it. Oh, I have 8 teeth now. Big change from 5 teeth. I get to use more of them ^O^.
Enjoy your free time without me! Be prepared when I get home!
See you in a month!
